Hello, I’m Briar Gilbert, specialist educator at Learning Matters in Te Awamutu.
I live on a dry-stock farm in Oparau with my husband Lyle and our four children, Keira, Anika, Braxton and Tilly.
I graduated from Waikato University as a Primary Teacher in 2006, and whilst I have been in a privileged position to spend much of that time focusing on raising my children and helping on our family farm, I have also spent time relief teaching in various local schools.
After experiencing the distress and lack of support that comes with having a Dyslexic child I found myself searching for solutions outside of the school system. And after hearing fantastic things about the research, presentations and training Carla had done to enable children with learning differences, I was excited to have the opportunity myself to join the Learning Matters team in 2016.
I am excited to be able to work with children in a systematic way that not only best suits their learning style, but most importantly is evidence based. I am positive these learners will experience success, grow in confidence and be given the strategies and tools they need to succeed in the future.
I look forward to meeting you.
