Learning Support Services

We specialise in evidence-based learning support for students aged four years to adults

Remote Specialist Literacy Sessions (via video call) – 50 Mins

If you can’t get to one of our centre locations, we have another option for you.

Our maths or literacy session can be delivered via a free video call on your computer. This makes it suitable for distance students to take part in 1:1 sessions with a Learning Matters educator, either in their own home or school environment.

These sessions also provide an opportunity for the child’s parent, teacher, or learning assistant to participate and to have regular communication.

During these sessions, our educator teaches reading and spelling skills through a structured and systematic approach. Sessions are directed by the needs identified from the child’s diagnostic education plan (formulated from a Mini Literacy Assessment) and the Learning Matters Scope and Sequence.

Video call sessions may be either 1-1 or in pairs.

Face to Face Specialist Literacy Paired Sessions – 50 Mins

Learning Matters specialist literacy educators teach reading and spelling skills directly and explicitly through a multisensory, structured and systematic approach.

Working in a peer environment enables children to realise that there are others who face the same learning challenges they do. It also enables them to have fun through the inclusion of appropriate games and activities.

Our educator teaches according to the child’s diagnostic education plan (formulated from a Mini Literacy Assessment) and the Learning Matters Scope and Sequence. Students are paired strategically to ensure the best outcomes for all are achieved.

Face to Face Specialist Maths Paired Sessions – 50 Mins

Like with the Literacy paired sessions, the Maths session includes a maximum of two children paired suitably by their assessment profiles, memory and processing capabilities. A maths group session includes these children working with one specialist educator.

At 50 minutes in length, our educator teaches according to the student’s diagnostic education plans (formulated from a Mini Maths Assessment).

Working in a peer environment enables students to realise that there are other children who face the same learning challenges they do. It enables them to have fun through the inclusion of appropriate games and activities.  Learning Matters educators teach fundamental mathematics skills and strategies through a multisensory, structured, and systematic approach.

Should your assessor believe that 1-1 sessions are best suited to your child (based on their assessment findings) they will discuss this with you.

Learning Matters Progress Updates

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to connect with your child’s educator briefly at the end of a session. We allow a ten minute window at the end of every session for this.
At the end of semester two and semester four your educator will email a comprehensive progress learning update to you.

This update will show comparisons between either your child’s initial assessment or their last progress update and their current progress to date in areas that have been taught.

Unlike the schooling system our measure of progress is not an expected reading level and/or comparison against peers. We measure and report progress on aspects of literacy and maths that have been proven to be pivotal in ongoing academic and everyday life success.

You don’t need to worry about booking in for this. Any necessary assessments required for the progress update will be completed at the appropriate times during your child’s existing sessions. There is a minimal charge for the administrative function of the reporting process and this will be added to your semester two and semester four invoice.

Should you require any further progress updates outside of this time you may need to book a 30 minute consult with your child’s educator.
