Initial Sound Bingo
A key area of phonological awareness is a child’s ability to hear and manipulate sounds (phonemes).
A strong understanding of sound awareness is the foundation needed to achieve mastery in reading and writing.
The ability to identify initial sounds is one of the beginning skills in literacy to help build the foundation. This activity is suitable for non-readers, emergent and struggling readers.
To play ‘Learning my First Sounds BINGO,’ children hear a word and match it to a picture that has the same initial sound. This is also a great way to introduce new vocabulary to a child.
The game comes with 4 Kiwiana style bingo boards, and 40 cards to match.
This resource has 3 other activity options to learn about sounds and includes a classification activity for the acquisition and ordering of information for understanding.
