We assess phonological awareness tasks in isolation as a predictor of reading and writing success.
Until a word is orthographically mapped for instant recognition when reading and instant recall when spelling, students must be taught how to transfer a task and be skilled at using this as a strategy to decode or encode unfamiliar words.
